Marcus has over 20 years experience as an ecologist
and has owned and managed the award-winning business
of MKA Ecology since 1998. He brings to the business
his excellent and broad knowledge of British habitats
and protected species, his expertise and skill in
working alongside professionals of all disciplines
on complex projects and a determination to deliver
service of the highest quality as efficiently as
possible. Marcus has extensive overseas ecological
experience, having worked and traveled extensively
in South East Asia, Australasia and Africa. He has
over ten years’ experience as a wildlife tour
leader, specializing in Madagascar, but also taking
groups to many other destinations across four continents
including leading the first extended wildlife tour
into Rwanda since the 1994 genocide. Marcus has
helped develop wildlife tour itineraries for several
clients and has a great understanding of international
eco-tourism.
Providing professional ecological services on projects
as diverse as long-term gravel extraction, landfill
and recreational landscaping, through pipelines
and motorway widening to habitat creation for the
grounds of a new hotel development has helped him
build a portfolio of skills. He is client focused
and committed to finding workable solutions and,
where possible, to adding value.
A Masters graduate in Ecology and Environmental
Management from the University of York, Ian has
many years’ experience as a professional ecologist
within the environmental consultancy sector and
joined MKA Ecology as Senior Ecologist in 2007.
He is committed to providing an excellent service
to clients.
As well as a thorough grounding in surveys and
data analysis in relation to British protected species,
particularly Water Voles and Birds, Ian has overseen
ecological components of many Environmental Impact
Assessments with extensive experience in managing
high - profile wind farm developments, both onshore
and offshore.
Ian is a committed ornithologist with a knowledge
base incorporating legislation, mitigation, conservation
and habitat management. A Schedule One licence holder
for Black Redstart and Barn owl, he has carried
out in-depth study into Crossbill ecology in Speyside
for the RSPB and is experienced in most survey methods.
Ian has obtained extensive experience in overseas
ecology, especially through his particular interest
in neo-tropical and oriental wildlife. Ian has traveled
extensively throughout Europe, North America, Central
and South America and South-east Asia. This has
allowed him to co-lead natural history tours to
Costa Rica and Brazil. Ian has most recently returned
from organising an expedition to remote areas of
the Philippine archipelago.

Rebecca graduated with a Doctorate in Ecology
from the University of Bristol and with a Masters
degree in Applied Ecology and Conservation from
the University of East Anglia. Her PhD thesis investigated
factors causing the decline of European hares and
aimed to facilitate the development of management
strategies for an increase in population numbers,
as highlighted in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan
for the species. Rebecca has over nine years experience
working as an ecologist and has extensive field
and project management expertise. Her work has
focused on surveying, monitoring and developing
management strategies for protected mammal species.
She also has experience in surveying other taxonomic
groups including vascular plants, bats, amphibians,
reptiles and birds. Since joining MKA Ecology Ltd
as a Senior Ecologist, Rebecca has attended numerous
training courses and continues to develop field
skills for a range of protected species and habitats
whilst working towards gaining her protected species
licences.
As well as working on ecological projects in
Britain, Rebecca has carried out population
surveys and
developed management strategies for wildlife
in South Africa, Uganda and the Peruvian Amazon.
In
addition, Rebecca has published papers in a number
of academic journals and is a member of the IUCN
Species Survival Commission Specialist Groups
for both Lagomorphs and Equids.

Will graduated with a Master’s degree in
Conservation from University College London where
his dissertation examined the relationship between
farming practices and corn bunting abundance. Will’s
undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at
the University of Bristol involved research into
bat echolocation and behaviour and this has fostered
a deep interest in the ecology of British Bats
which he has been able to pursue through close
involvement with local bat groups. Will also has
an interest in invertebrates and has taken part
in numerous courses and workshops to develop his
skills in this field.
Will has developed an excellent understanding
of British wildlife, ecology and conservation whilst
working for a local Wildlife Trust and MKA Ecology.
He has taken part in and managed a wide range of
projects involving several taxonomic groups including
amphibians, bats, birds, protected mammals, reptiles
and vascular plants. These surveys have supported
a variety of projects such as wind farm developments,
major road schemes, barn renovations, BREEAM assessments,
European protected species licence applications
and large housing developments. Will currently
holds Great Crested Newt and bat licenses.

Management from the University of York. She has
since gained a broad skills base in ecological
surveys and especially in ornithological surveys
and research whilst working for the British Trust
for Ornithology, RSPB and MKA Ecology. Kerry has
been involved with projects researching the ecology
and predation of Woodlark and Nightjar nests in
Thetford forest and Lapwing breeding success in
relation to agri-environment schemes in the Peak
District, as well as training towards a licence
to ring birds for the study of bird populations.
Kerry also brings experience of carrying out botanical
surveys and surveys for protected species and has
an interest in bat ecology, all of which she continues
to develop through her work with MKA Ecology.

Emily graduated with a degree in Environmental Science from the University of
Leeds in 2008. In 2009 she undertook a graduate training scheme with Somerset
Environmental Records where she gained experience surveying a range of protected
species and habitats. Field experience includes surveys of bats, dormouse, otters,
reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, water voles and birds. Having carried out
NVC surveys she has also gained a good working knowledge of British flora. Emily
