MKA Ecology can provide clients in the renewables
industry with a full service of ecological assessment
in relation to wind energy developments. This
ranges from feasibility studies, detailed survey
work through to Ecological Impact Assessment
(EcIA). We now have an extensive track record
in producing concise and effective Environmental
Statement chapters for wind energy developments.
We also hold extensive
experience in Studies to Inform Appropriate Assessments
for wind energy developments in addition to monitoring
work and the design and implementation of mitigation.
We have extensive experience in ecological assessments of proposed wind
farms and have worked on 13 wind farm schemes in England and Wales in
the last two years.
MKA Ecology’s in-house ornithologists
have widespread survey experience in the sector,
ensuring that any survey data collected is of
a high accuracy. The quality and reliability
of the data is critical if it is to be used in
collision risk analysis for impact assessment
of wind turbines.
We are one of the few consultancies that is
capable of undertaking bat surveys at altitude,
using an AnaBat set-up with a microphone placed
at height on either a meteorological mast or
equivalent. This critically evaluates whether
bat activity is occurring at the altitude of
proposed wind turbine blades, and allows an informed
impact assessment to be undertaken.
We can provide the wind energy
industry with a professional service using our
experience
and up to date technology.
- We undertake habitat and species-specific
surveys.
- We undertake ecological impact assessments
for all species and habitats, including specialized
input on birds and bats.
- We can offer advice on all aspects of protected
species legislation and nature conservation.
- We carry out and produce effective EcIA and
Appropriate Assessment studies.
- We design and implement mitigation strategies
for all protected species.
- We can carry out long-term monitoring of
mitigation projects to demonstrate their success.
